Mount Austin High School

Our year 7 modified English class has been learning about Erasure poetry from Reconciliation NSW’s lessons in the School’s Reconciliation Challenge. The students have used the statements and lyrics Reconciliation NSW have included in the resources as well as a page about stars to go with the theme of this year’s challenge. The students have enjoyed this experience and their artwork/poetry has far exceeded my expectations and they are super proud of their work.

Reconciliation means…

Our 7 English class is only 13 students who are Indigenous and non- Indigenous from all over the world including Iran, Iraq, Persia, Liberia and Nigeria. Reconciliation is a reflection of our classroom where all students can be safe and learn and grow together, being culturally inclusive at all times. We enjoy learning about the different cultures in our classroom and we have particularly enjoyed learning about Wiradjuri culture and language. The School’s Reconciliation Challenge has provided amazing resources for our class to explore and learn from.
